APM Sweeps Bauchi LG Polls
BAUCHI, Nigeria — The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has achieved a near-total sweep in the Bauchi State local government elections, capturing all 20 chairmanship positions and 319 out of 323 councillorship seats.
The Executive Chairperson of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC), Jummai Abubakar, officially announced the results following the conclusion of voting, collation, and verification.
APM Dominates Chairmanship Polls
The APM cleared the board across all twenty local government areas. Announcing the final tally, Abubakar stated, “Following the conclusion of voting, counting, collation, and verification, I, Jummai Abubakar, Chairperson of BASIEC, hereby declare that all 20 APM candidates emerged victorious as Chairmen of the respective Local Government Areas.”
Opposition Clinches Four Councillorship Wards
While the APM dominated 319 councillorship seats, four minority parties managed to secure one ward each. The Social Democratic Party (SDP) won in Dandango Ward in Bauchi LGA, while the National Rescue Movement (NRM) won in Darazo South Ward in Darazo LGA.
Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) won in Wandi Ward in Dass LGA, while Young Progressive Party (YPP) won in Zirami Ward in Giade LGA.
Commission Affirms Credibility
The BASIEC chairperson confirmed that all winning candidates satisfied every legal requirement and secured the highest number of valid votes. She commended Governor Bala Mohammed for supporting the commission’s logistics, while emphasizing that the electoral body operated with complete independence in accordance with the law.
