2027 Presidency: Seyi Makinde Vows One-Term ‘Unity’ Government, Challenges Tinubu on Fuel Pricing
Seyi Makinde, the presidential candidate for the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), has pledged to serve only a single four-year term if elected in 2027. He promised to lead a transitional government of national unity while demanding that President Bola Tinubu immediately publish the Federal Government’s petroleum pricing template.
Speaking at the APM North-East town hall meeting in Yola, Adamawa State, the Oyo State Governor asserted that Nigerians deserve direct relief from economic hardship and transparency regarding fuel price hikes. He accused the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration of failing to deliver on key milestones, including stable electricity supply and viable alternative fuel frameworks.
Makinde strongly challenged the Federal Government to make its internal fuel pricing metrics public. He argued that solutions to Nigeria’s economic crisis are not the exclusive preserve of current villa officials, adding that independent experts and everyday citizens have a right to see how pricing is calculated.
The APM candidate explicitly faulted the presidency’s rollout of compressed natural gas (CNG) initiatives, adoption of electric vehicle (EV) adoption policies and the naira-for-crude framework, arguing that the interventions have failed to bring relief to citizens, contrasting the current realities against President Tinubu’s initial promises to fix the national electricity grid within four years.
Addressing concerns raised by northern stakeholders regarding the centralization of political power, Makinde promised a highly inclusive, decentralized administration. He noted that his proposed four-year transitional governance structure would build on power-sharing, rigorous public participation, and cross-regional representation.
