‘Peter Obi Disconnected from Reality’ — APC Presidential Campaign Council

The political rhetoric surrounding Nigeria’s next general election cycle intensified on October 9, 2026, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) launched a scathing critique against Labour Party figure Peter Obi over his persistent claims regarding the 2023 ballot.

The confrontation stems from an interview broadcast by the BBC, where Obi reportedly maintained his stance as the rightful winner of the previous election cycle, despite noting that “everything is not based on evidence.”

In a swift rejoinder issued by APC Presidential Campaign Council Spokesperson Dele Alake, the ruling party characterized Obi’s logic as an attempt to legitimize unsubstantiated conjectures.

Alake pointed out that Obi’s third-place finish in the official INEC results makes his ongoing claims of victory contrary to all judicial and constitutional records established by the country’s highest courts.

Beyond relitigating the 2023 polls, the APC’s statement directly targeted Obi’s political viability for the 2027 presidential race. The ruling party demanded that Obi fulfill an earlier public commitment to exit future presidential contests if evidence emerged showing he left liabilities at the end of his tenure as Governor of Anambra State.

According to Alake, recent state financial records have firmly validated those liabilities.

As the political landscape begins to shift toward the next election cycle, the sharp exchange underscores the enduring friction between President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which maintains it is delivering on economic and infrastructural mandates, and an opposition that continues to challenge the foundational legitimacy of the ruling government.
