2027 Presidency: Akume, North-Central APC Governors Endorse Tinubu, Shettima For Second Term
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, and six All Progressives Congress (APC) governors from the North-Central region have unanimously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The endorsement was formalized at Saturday‘s North-Central Grand Rally held in Lafia, Nasarawa State. The gathering, organized by the North Central Grassroots Mobilisation Network for Tinubu/Shettima 2027, saw key political stakeholders affirm President Tinubu as their sole candidate for the upcoming polls.

Moving the motion for the endorsement, Senator Akume declared that the region stands firmly behind the presidency to ensure continuity in leadership.
“By the authority of this great congregation, I, Senator George Akume, hereby propose that the people of the North-Central States meeting here have resolved that, come 2027, our sole candidate is His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. There is no other candidate,” Akume stated.
The SGF urged political stakeholders across the country to respect the principle of an eight-year power rotation between the North and South, an understanding reached by political leaders in Kaduna in 1999 to promote political balance and national unity.
Highlighting the administration’s achievements, Akume praised President Tinubu’s vision, citing the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the proposed Badagry-Sokoto Highway as landmark infrastructure initiatives.
He also noted that increased fiscal allocations to states and local governments have enhanced subnational development while defending the courageous removal of the petrol subsidy and the introduction of student loans to expand access to tertiary education.
Seconding the motion, the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State and Chairman of the North-Central Governors Forum, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, pledged the unwavering support of the region’s governors, which includes Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, Niger, Benue, and Plateau states, alongside the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Governor Sule attributed the endorsement to significant economic and developmental strides under the current administration, stating, “I hereby second the motion to support a man who has improved our oil production from less than one million to over 1.8 million barrels per day, who has improved our foreign reserve from less than $20 billion to more than $50 billion, and improved capitalization from less than N80 trillion to now N180 trillion.”
