Nigeria Condemns Houthi Attack on Saudi Arabia’s King Khalid International Airport
ABUJA, Nigeria — The Federal Government of Nigeria has strongly condemned the recent attack by Houthi militia on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday, 10 October 2026, reportedly resulted in the tragic deaths of 12 civilians and left more than 300 people injured.
In an official statement released on Sunday, 11 October 2026, by Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Oluwafemi Adeniyi, Nigeria described the strike as a “dangerous escalation.” The government noted that the attack flagrantly disregards civilian safety, violates Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty, and severely threatens Middle East peace initiatives.
Call for Restraint and International Law
The Nigerian government urged all involved parties to abide by international law, exercise restraint, and prevent further escalations that jeopardize regional security, civilian lives, and critical infrastructure.
The statement emphasized the critical obligation under international law to protect civilians and preserve civilian infrastructure.
Solidarity with Saudi Arabia
Nigeria expressed its full solidarity with the government and people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, offering condolences to the victims’ families and wishing a quick recovery to the injured.
Additionally, Abuja commended Saudi authorities for their rapid emergency response at the Riyadh airport following the attack.
Reaffirming its commitment to global stability, Nigeria stated its ongoing support for diplomatic dialogue and genuine initiatives aimed at de-escalating tensions and fostering long-term peace in the Middle East.
