Premier League Wrap: Manchester City Clear at Top After Thumping Liverpool
Manchester City maintained their perfect start to the Premier League season with a commanding 3-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
The Matchday 6 headliner began as a fierce, evenly matched contest but ultimately ended with Liverpool’s unbeaten start to the 2026/27 league campaign.
The turning point of the match arrived just after the hour mark. Following a scoreless first half, Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch received a second yellow card and was dismissed in the 62nd minute.
Enzo Maresca’s side took immediate advantage of the red card. Erling Haaland opened the scoring in the 65th minute, and Jeremy Doku quickly made it 2-0 three minutes later. Rayan Cherki capped off the dominant second-half display with a strike in the 78th minute.
The victory keeps City firmly at the top of the standings with 18 points, while Liverpool drops to 9th.
Arsenal kept pace in second place with 15 points after defeating Leeds United 2-1 on Saturday. In contrast, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur did little to ease their recent woes, playing out a dull 1-1 draw that leaves them 13th and 18th in the table.
Around the grounds, Chelsea thrashed Bournemouth 5-1, Brighton secured an away win at Sunderland, and Aston Villa drew 2-2 with Brentford.
At the foot of the table, Fulham’s poor form continued with a 2-1 loss to newly-promoted Ipswich Town, leaving Álvaro Arbeloa’s team in last place.
