Police Launch Rescue Operations for Clerics Abducted En Route to Prayer Event for Tinubu

Security forces in Zamfara State have launched an intensive rescue operation to free six Islamic clerics abducted by heavily armed bandits in the Bakura Local Government Area.

The incident occurred on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at approximately 11:30 a.m. along the Dakko–Damri feeder road.

The victims, all prominent local Imams, were en route to Talata Mafara when their vehicle was ambushed by gunmen wielding sophisticated weapons.

The Security Response

According to a statement released on Sunday by Zamfara State Police Command spokesperson Yazid Abubakar, security operatives responded swiftly to the distress call with immediate rescue mobilisation.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Bakura led a joint team to the crime scene immediately, which later involved members of specialized personnel from the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) alongside sister security agencies.

Active Operations

The statement says security forces are currently combing the surrounding bushes and forests to track down the kidnappers and safely rescue the religious leaders.

The police command has assured the public that no stone will be left unturned in ensuring the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice.
