Akwa Ibom Bursary Increase: Gov Umo Eno Approves ₦200,000 for Tertiary Students in 2027
UYO — Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has announced a major upward review of bursary payments for indigenous students in government-owned tertiary institutions across the country, increasing the state’s flat-rate allowance from ₦50,000 to ₦200,000.
Under the new funding framework, undergraduates pursuing specialized degrees in Medicine, Law, and Engineering will receive an enhanced annual disbursement of ₦250,000.
The policy shift will officially take effect from the start of the 2027 academic session.
Governor Eno disclosed the development today, October 28, 2026, while responding to questions during an interactive chat session on the second day of the Ibom Ignite Conference 2026, currently underway in Uyo, the state capital.
The multi-tiered increment is part of an ongoing policy under the administration’s ARISE Agenda to cushion the rising cost of higher education for state indigenes.
Prior to the mid-2026 interventions, the state’s flat bursary rate stood at ₦20,000.
The newly adjusted figures for 2027 represent a 300 per cent increase for general students and a 400 per cent expansion for those in professional fields.
Administrative officials from the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Education are expected to release full implementation guidelines, verification modalities, and biometric registration protocols for eligible students in the coming weeks.
