IGP Activates Top-Level Response for Rescue of 20 Abducted NYSC Members on Owerri-Onitsha Road
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has deployed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Umar Nadada, to Imo State following the abduction of 20 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members.
The corps members were traveling to Abia and Akwa Ibom States for their compulsory three-week orientation exercise when gunmen intercepted their vehicle along the Owerri-Onitsha Road.
Upon arriving in Imo State, DIG Nadada immediately led a security team to examine the terrain and review the circumstances surrounding the ambush. The 20 corps members remain in captivity as search efforts intensify.
The Imo State Commissioner of Police, Audu Bosso, provided a comprehensive briefing to the DIG regarding recent developments and the tactical deployments aimed at locating the victims.
Speaking during the operational assessment, DIG Nadada emphasized that multiple security agencies are collaborating closely to ensure the corps members are returned safely.
“Security agencies are working in synergy,” Nadada stated. “Our primary focus is to ensure the victims are rescued safely and without any harm.”
The Nigeria Police Force has expanded its search grid across neighboring communities along the Onitsha-Owerri axis, deploying specialized tactical units to track the abductors.
