‘No Rainbow Coalition in Osun State’—Adeleke

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke says there is no existing agreement to share legislative or local government seats with the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

The Governor made the clarification following social media reports alleging that a pact between his administration and the Presidency included the allocation of local government positions, as well as Senate, House of Representatives, and State Assembly seats, between the state APC and coalition partners.

Describing the reports of office-sharing as “mere fabrication and fake news”, Governor Adeleke reaffirmed his commitment to the re-election campaign of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He explained that ongoing negotiations to resolve the state’s local government crisis are strictly designed to protect the interests of both APC chairpersons and elected Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmen and councillors.

“As the governor of all Osun indigenes and residents, we are working to resolve the local government matter by ensuring that all interests are protected and cared for,” Adeleke said. “As at now, all stakeholders agreed that restoring grassroots governance is a condition for our successful campaign ahead of the 2027 elections.”

The Governor assured residents that the local government crisis would be fully resolved before the end of the year. He emphasized that the alliance binding coalition partners is solely focused on the presidential race.

“As I said while inaugurating the Presidential Campaign Council, the coalition is targeted at the presidential election. Partners agreed to join hands to ensure our dear president is re-elected,” the Governor stated.

He further noted that all legislative positions remain open for democratic competition, declaring his intention to actively campaign for candidates under his coalition’s banner.

“All other legislative positions are open for competition. I will work and campaign for Accord candidates for Senate, House of Representatives and the State House of Assembly. I urge all political parties to campaign for their candidates, as I will do for Accord candidates. We have no deal on the National Assembly and the State Assembly elections. All our candidates will face the electorate, who has the final say,” Adeleke added.

The clarification was contained in an official press statement signed and released on Wednesday by Mallam Olawale Rasheed, spokesperson to the State Governor.
