ABUJA, NIGERIA — The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially uploaded the Preliminary Register of Voters for the 2027 General Election to its online portal, following widespread calls for increased accessibility and transparency.

In a press statement released on Monday, October 26, 2026, by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), the commission revealed that registered voters can now verify their details online via https://display.inecnigeria.org.

Transition from Physical to Digital Display

This digital deployment follows the conclusion of the nationwide physical display of the register, which took place across all Registration Areas from October 9 to October 15, 2026, in accordance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act, 2026.

While the physical exercise allowed citizens to inspect their particulars and file claims or objections, stakeholders and members of the public expressed a strong preference for a digital alternative to ensure wider reach.

“The Commission has taken note of the concerns expressed by Nigerians and other stakeholders regarding the desirability of making the Register accessible through its online platform in addition to the physical display already conducted,” the statement read.

Next Steps and Final Register Timeline

INEC emphasized that the online portal serves as a complementary measure to bolster public confidence and accountability in the electoral process.

The commission says it is currently processing all claims, corrections, and objections submitted during the verification window. The clean-up process is a prerequisite for the official certification and publication of the Final Register of Voters, which is legally scheduled for December 15, 2026.

Reiterating its allegiance to the framework of the Electoral Act, 2026, INEC thanked Nigerians for their active civic engagement and pledged to maintain absolute transparency as the country prepares for the 2027 polls.
