ABUJA, NIGERIA — Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially constituted its National Campaign Council, positioning top political figures to lead its nationwide mobilization strategy.

The council is structured to deliver what the party describes as a “people-centred and issue-based campaign” aimed at uniting and rallying Nigerians behind a fresh governance vision.

According to the official announcement released by the party, the council brings together prominent leaders from the country’s political space. Party leader Senator Henry Seriake Dickson will serve as the chairman of the council, while the presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will be the co-chairman.

Senator Cleopas Zuwoghe, the NDC National Chairman, will serve as the vice chairman along with Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the party’s vice presidential candidate.

Ibrahim Abdulkarim has been appointed the Director-General, while Babachir Lawal, chairman of the national campaign advisory council, is also a member of the campaign council.

Other members are Buba Galadima, Professor Mahmud Jahun, Senator Ovie Omoh Agege, Senator Victor Umeh, Ambassador Sidi Abdul, Prof. Pat Utomi, and Chief Achike Udenwa among others.

The newly formed council will take charge of strategic leadership and coordinate all campaign activities across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The core mission focuses on driving national support for the party’s platform, which promises a “new, just, and prosperous Nigeria.”

In its statement, the NDC leadership extended a call to action to all party members, loyalists, and citizens, urging them to remain steadfast, united, and focused on the ultimate goal of national renewal.

“A new and working Nigeria is possible,” the party affirmed, signaling its readiness to challenge the existing political status quo as the 2027 election cycle begins to heat up.
