“Who Created the Hunger?” Tinubu Blames Opposition at APC 2027 Campaign Flag-Off
KADUNA, Nigeria — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu officially launched his re-election bid today at the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign flag-off in Kaduna State, fiercely defending his administration’s economic reforms while laying the blame for Nigeria’s current hardships squarely on past administrations.
Addressing a massive crowd at the stadium venue, the President pushed back against criticisms from the opposition regarding the rising cost of living.
“I hear my opponents talking about hunger and poverty. Who created it? They did,” Tinubu stated, emphasizing that his government is actively working to dismantle the economic damage inherited from previous leaderships. “We are trying to eradicate it,” he said.
A central theme of the President’s address was the permanence of his administration’s boldest economic policy—the removal of the petrol subsidy. Striking a definitive tone, Tinubu made it clear that the country would not return to old fiscal policies. “What is passed is the past. Fuel subsidy is in our past. No more corruption and falsification of invoices,” he declared, framing the subsidy removal as a necessary step to root out corruption, secure institutional progress, and bring long-term prosperity to Nigeria.
Beyond political rhetoric, the campaign launch featured a major infrastructure milestone. Right from the stadium venue of the 2027 presidential campaign flag-off, Tinubu commissioned completed sections of the critical Abuja-Kaduna highway, presenting the project as tangible evidence of his administration’s commitment to infrastructural development.
As the rally concluded, the President made a direct appeal to the electorate, urging citizens to protect their future and let their fingerprints speak at the ballot box.
Earlier, Vice President Kashim Shettima made an impassioned appeal to northern voters on why they should support Tinubu and elect him for a second term.
Shettima highlighted Tinubu’s historical backing of Northern leaders, saying, “When Atiku was chased by the PDP with his tail between his legs, he ran to the lion of Bourdillon. Tinubu also supported Nuhu Ribadu to contest the presidency of this country. From 2015 to 2019, he stood with President Muhammadu Buhari.”
He argued that it was time for the northern region to return the favour by backing Tinubu’s reelection.
