Manchester City’s hope of extending their lead at the top of the English premiership table was shattered on Saturday as the league leaders slumped to a 2-1 defeat away at Aston Villa.

Villa opened and took the lead early in the game when Nicholas Jackson scored in the 6th minute to register the home side’s intent. It took Manchester City until the second half to get an equalizer through talisman Erling Haaland in the 52nd minute.

But Haaland’s leveller lasted only 8 minutes, as Nicholas Jackson got his brace in the game and the winner for Unai Emery’s side.

The win pushes Aston Villa to 6th position with 11 points, while City now shares the top position on the table with Arsenal. Both teams have 21 points, with Enzo Maresca’s side having a slight edge due to goals difference.

Meanwhile, Arsenal stopped Everton’s momentum with a 2-0 win at the Emirates with goals from Ezri Konsa and Gabriel.

The cloud seems to be clearing off for Fulham as well after their 1-0 away win at Coventry. Oscar Bobb’s strike has ensured Alvaro Arbeloa got a back-to-back win to push the team off the relegation zone to 13th position on the table with 8 points from 8 games, while Frank Lampard’s Coventry sit deep in 19th position.

The big game of the day was a London derby between Chelsea and Tottenham, who, like Fulham, are for the first time since the start of the season, winning back-to-back games, avoiding defeat in three straight games.

Spurs began the encounter with purpose, chasing every ball and making daring moves. Their efforts paid off fortuitously in the second half when Chelsea’s stand-in goalie Mike Penders failed to punch away a corner ball to gift Spurs the lead.

Chelsea’s problems were compounded when Cole Palmer got a second yellow and was sent off, his first red card in his senior career.

Tottenham capitalized on the advantage to pile pressure on Chelsea and were rewarded after Mathys Tel made a solo run and struck a goal to double Spurs’ lead in the 87th minute. The win moved Roberto De Zerbi’s team to 12th with 9 points, with Chelsea still ahead at 4th position with 13 points
