Sowore’s AAC Writes Tinubu, Demands Use of Aso Rock Villa for Campaign Inauguration, Requests Food and Drinks
ABUJA, NIGERIA — Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the African Action Congress (AAC) has officially requested approval from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to use the Presidential Villa (Aso Rock) to host the inauguration of its Presidential Campaign Council.
The demand was contained in a formal letter dated October 21, 2026, signed by the AAC National Secretary, Oshiokhue Philip Ikpeminoghena. The party says it plans to hold the event on November 11, 2026.
The unusual letter did not just stop at a request for venue. Citing the principles of multiparty democracy and equal treatment, the party also asked that the presidency provide food, drinks, and general logistics for its participants.

According to the letter, the request mirrors arrangements that were “reportedly extended to the All Progressives Congress (APC) for a similar political engagement.”
“We believe that granting this request would demonstrate the Presidency’s commitment to fairness, equal access, and the principle that public institutions must serve all Nigerians without partisan discrimination,” Ikpeminoghena stated in the letter.
The move comes as political parties aggressively ramp up structures for the next election cycle. Human rights activist and prominent government critic Omoyele Sowore clinched the AAC presidential ticket earlier this year.
By asking that its campaign launch takes place at the official residence of the incumbent leader, the AAC claims it is putting the presidency’s commitment to institutional neutrality to the test.
The national secretariat of the party, currently operating out of Apo, Abuja, concluded the letter by asking the State House for the necessary procedures and conditions required to secure approval.
The presidency has yet to issue an official reaction or comment on the rather strange request.
