The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Peter Obi, has declared uncompromising war against corruption, economic hardship, and widespread insecurity as the foundational pillar of his administration if elected president in 2027.

Speaking before crowds of supporters, civil society groups, and local stakeholders at a town hall meeting in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, Obi expressed deep concern over the country’s trajectory. He maintained that Nigeria’s recurring challenges cannot be solved without radically shifting focus toward transparent leadership and human capital development.

“Tackling insecurity, corruption, and economic hardship will be central to our administration,” Obi stated. “We are focused on shifting Nigeria from consumption to production, and that requires an environment where people feel safe and public resources are strictly accounted for.”

During the interactive session, the NDC candidate identified agriculture, education, and healthcare as critical national sectors requiring immediate structural rescue. He argued that revitalizing moribund domestic industries and expanding employment options are directly linked to national security, as poverty remains a primary driver of the country’s rising insecurity.

Local stakeholders at the town hall seized the opportunity to present regional grievances to the presidential hopeful.

Representatives highlighted severe infrastructure deficits, skyrocketing youth unemployment, and underinvestment in Kogi State’s vast agrarian landscape. They urged the next crop of political leaders to move past campaign rhetoric and deliver practical governance capable of lifting rural communities out of poverty.

The Lokoja town hall meeting is part of a deliberate, nationwide consultation strategy deployed by Peter Obi as political activity intensifies across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.

As the engagement concluded, attendees issued renewed calls for accountable governance and practical economic policies. With the election cycle gathering momentum, opposition movements are increasingly utilizing grassroots town halls to challenge the status quo and mobilize voters ahead of the 2027 polls.
