The Zamfara State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old man, Umar Ibrahim Gandi Maradun, following a viral video in which he allegedly threatened to launch firearms attacks against Christian worshippers.

In the controversial footage, the suspect, clad in a uniform belonging to the Islamic group Jama’atu Izalatil Bidi’a Wa’ikamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS) and surrounded by pupils, reportedly called for an AK-47 rifle to attack Christians during Sunday services in Jos, Plateau State, and Enugu State.

The State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Bello, disclosed that Maradun was apprehended and handed over to law enforcement by JIBWIS officials. The Islamic organisation swiftly disassociated itself from the suspect’s remarks, condemning the video before delivering him to the police command.

Commissioner Bello confirmed that a comprehensive investigation into the incident has commenced to determine the full scope of the alleged offences. He issued a strong appeal to the public for calm, cautioning citizens against spreading unverified claims or engaging in actions that could aggravate religious tensions across the region.

Reassuring residents of all faiths, Bello emphasized that the command remains fully committed to ensuring equal protection for every citizen without discrimination. He reiterated that the police, under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu, will continue to uphold their statutory duty to maintain law, order, and national security.
