Operation Fansan Yamma: Troops Kill Terrorist, Rescue 6 Kidnap Victims in Sokoto, Zamfara
Troops from the Joint Task Force North West, under Operation Fansan Yamma (JTF NW OPFY), have neutralised a suspected terrorist and successfully rescued six attempted kidnap victims during separate weekend operations in Sokoto and Zamfara States.
The successful anti-terror operations, conducted on Saturday, September 26, 2026, also led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, live ammunition, and a foreign military uniform.
According to an official statement released on Sunday by Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer for the task force, the operations were executed following credible intelligence and swift tactical responses.
Terrorist Camp Dismantled in Sokoto
In Sokoto State, troops attached to Sector 2 acted on intelligence regarding a suspected terrorist hideout in the Gudu Local Government Area.
The military personnel advanced rapidly on the location, resulting in an encounter with an isolated terrorist.
“During the operation, troops made contact with an isolated terrorist and neutralised him,” Lieutenant Colonel Danja stated.
An AK-47 rifle, ammunition, a foreign military uniform, as well as various tools and clothing items were recovered in the camp.
Six Family Members Saved in Zamfara
In a parallel development on Saturday evening, troops deployed to Zamfara State thwarted an abduction attempt targeting members of a local leader’s family.
The team responded to a distress call detailing an ongoing raid by terrorists attempting to kidnap family members of the Sarkin Samari in the Tsafe Local Government Area.
But the troops had to engage the attackers in a fierce gun battle, forcing the terrorists to abandon their mission and retreat into nearby bushes.
Six kidnap victims were successfully rescued unharmed during the operation. The military confirmed that the rescued individuals have been moved to a safe location and are undergoing processing before being reunited with their families.
The military command described the weekend successes as a testament to the ongoing resolve and professionalism of the Operation Fansan Yamma troops in safeguarding lives and property across the volatile North West region.
The Joint Task Force urged residents to maintain close collaboration with security personnel by providing timely, actionable intelligence on criminal activities within their communities to help sustain the momentum against banditry and terrorism.
