Operation Fansan Yamma Rescues 23, Arrests Lakurawa Terrorists in Sokoto

Troops operating under Operation Fansan Yamma have rescued 23 kidnapped victims and arrested four suspected members of the notorious Lakurawa terrorist group during major operations across Sokoto State.

The operation was conducted by troops of Sector 2 foil who responded to multiple terrorist attacks on Sunday after engaging the heavily armed bandits in fierce gun battles.

Clashes in Wurno and Sabon Birni

The military intervention began when troops responded heavily to an attack on Sabon Gari in the Wurno Local Government Area.

Terrorists invaded the community and fired sporadically, but soldiers pushed them back after an intense shootout, rescuing six victims on the spot. Meanwhile, in Sabon Birni, military intelligence uncovered a planned ambush along the Sabon Birni–Takatsaba Road.

Troops quickly laid a counter-ambush, overwhelming the terrorists with superior firepower and forcing them to flee in disarray.

Highway Rescues and Medical Evacuations

The successes continued along the volatile Isa–Kwanar Isa–Shinkafi Road, where troops answered another distress call. Following what was described as a heavy firefight, seventeen more kidnapped civilians were liberated.

Military officials confirmed that two civilians injured during these operations—including one with a gunshot wound and another with a fracture—were evacuated to medical facilities for urgent treatment.

Lakurawa Sect Intercepted in Illela

In a blow to the newly emerging Lakurawa terrorist sect, an intelligence-led sting operation in Illela intercepted suspects trying to smuggle a herd of rustled cattle. Four suspected Lakurawa members are said to have been arrested. The suspects are currently held in military custody.

Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force, stated that troops remain resolute in sustaining pressure and protecting communities across the Northwest.
