INEC Labels Notice on Governorship Candidates in Kano, Zamfara, and Others as Fake
ABUJA, NIGERIA — The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a disclaimer over an online publication concerning the list of governorship candidates in six states.
According to an official public notice released by the commission, the viral post falsely claims to be a “special announcement” addressing issues with governorship candidates in Zamfara, Gombe, Delta, Plateau, Yobe, and Kano states.

INEC categorically stated that the publication is entirely fake and did not originate from its offices. The electoral body urged citizens to completely disregard the fraudulent report and refrain from spreading it further across social media platforms.
The spread of the fake notice follows intense public interest and anxiety generated by INEC’s recent release of the official final list of governorship and State House of Assembly candidates.
The commission’s official disclosures revealed major omissions of prominent political figures across the federation.
Notably, high-profile exclusions included the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship hopeful for Gombe State, Professor Isa Pantami, and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate in Kano State, Aminu Abdulsalam, among others.
To guard against misinformation, the commission advised the public to rely exclusively on official notices and verified communication channels, including its official website
