Why the 2027 Coalition Talks Failed and Atiku’s Strategy to Win — ADC Spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) does not require a political coalition to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 presidential election, according to party spokesperson Malam Bolaji Abdullahi.

Speaking on the party’s electoral strategy and the current economic climate, Abdullahi declared that the harsh realities experienced by Nigerians over the last three years have naturally shifted the political landscape in favor of the opposition.

Despite earlier attempts to form a united opposition front, the ADC remains confident in its standalone capacity to secure victory.
Abdullahi noted that while an alliance could have simplified the process, the party is fully equipped to win on its own merit.

On failed coalition talks, Abdullahi, who was speaking on Channels Television, said, “We started with the assumption that a broad-based coalition would make beating the APC easier, but it didn’t pan out. Key leaders like His Excellency Peter Obi and Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso have moved to the NNPP”.

He bragged that the ADC “does not need a coalition to win the 2027 presidential election.”

He, however, agreed that strategic cooperation with other parties is important. While a single presidential candidate is no longer the goal, Abdullahi revealed that opposition parties are still collaborating through platforms like the ‘V100.’ Instead of a merger, the focus has shifted to practical areas of cooperation, such as creating a unified protocol for election monitoring and vote policing.

National Electoral Appeal

Abdullahi emphasized that the ADC and its allied interests will pull votes from every corner of Nigeria, from Abia to Zamfara. “The experience of Nigerians in the last three years has pushed people to the level where they are saying, ‘Anyone but President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.’ The only candidate today saying, “I will make your life better, is Alhaji Atiku Abubakar,” Abdullahi said.

The ADC also launched a scathing critique against the Tinubu administration’s newly announced plan to expand Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations to 500 in a bid to crash transportation costs. The opposition party dismissed the sudden intervention as a panicked political reaction, coming nearly three years too late to alleviate the suffering of citizens.

The ADC claims the emergency meeting between the President and state governors was only triggered because Atiku Abubakar placed targeted production subsidies and the rising cost of living at the center of the national debate.

The party questioned why a CNG transit network was not established before the immediate removal of the petrol subsidy in 2023, alleging that the administration always possessed the financial capacity to cushion the effects of its harsh economic policies but intentionally withheld relief until its 2027 electoral interests were threatened.
