Rep. Ilhan Omar Accuses Trump of Weaponizing Law Enforcement After Minnesota Residence Search
U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar struck back against Donald Trump on Monday, accusing the former president of attempting to “weaponize federal law enforcement” and target his political enemies.
Her comments come after federal agents execute a search warrant at Washington, D.C.-area residence of the Democratic U.S. Representative
The conflict escalated after journalist Aaron Rupar shared a post from Trump targeting the state. “The once Great State of Minnesota is being taken over by Somali immigrants,” Trump wrote, alleging “violence, murder, and mayhem all over the State” and calling for the people of Minnesota to “fight back.”
Rupar characterized the statement as an attempt to “start a race war in Minnesota.”
Omar quickly responded to the remarks, defending her constituents and condemning Trump’s rhetoric. “Trump’s obsession with demonizing the Somali community is dangerous and reprehensible,” Omar stated. “Hate to break it to him: Somali Minnesotans are resilient. We will not let Trump intimidate us. Our neighbors have our back.”
In a subsequent statement, Omar reassured her supporters of her personal safety while framing the attacks as part of a long-standing pattern of political hostility.
“I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement,” Omar said. “For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.”
The exchange highlights ongoing tensions between Trump and the Minnesota lawmaker, who has frequently been a target of his political rhetoric.
Omar, a Somali-American who represents Minnesota’s 5th congressional district, remains one of the most prominent immigrant voices in federal government.
