Pa Reuben Fashoranti: When a Leader Becomes Eternity’s Memory
– By Olukayode Ajulo
Some men live long; a rare few live consequentially. Pa Reuben Fashoranti was such a man, and I feel deeply privileged to have witnessed the strength of his character, the clarity of his convictions, and the quiet dignity with which he carried himself.
To me, Pa Fashoranti was more than a towering patriarch and a model of principled leadership. He was a reminder that integrity is not an abstract ideal but a daily choice. He showed that a life of honour is a greater inheritance than fortune and that true leadership requires standing firm when convenience invites compromise.
His passing has left a deep void. Yet, even in grief, I am comforted by the knowledge that his earthly journey was meaningful and that the values he upheld will continue to speak to us. Death may silence a voice, but it cannot erase the truth that voice proclaimed or the example it set for generations.
Scripture declares in 2 Timothy 4:7–8, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” These words capture the meaning of a life lived with purpose, courage, and steadfast devotion to what is right. They also reflect the legacy Pa Fashoranti leaves behind.
Ecclesiastes 7:1 further reminds us that “a good name is better than precious ointment.” In my estimation, Pa Fashoranti’s greatest possession was not what he acquired, but the honour he earned through a lifetime of service, conviction, and uprightness.
As I mourn his passing, I also recognise the responsibility his example places upon those of us who remain. We must uphold the principles he embodied and find the courage to do what is right, even when doing so demands sacrifice. His life challenges me personally to remain faithful to truth, to serve with humility, and to resist the temptation to exchange principle for convenience.
The mortal man has departed; the values he upheld remain. The patriarch is gone, but his wisdom, example, and moral courage will continue to guide me and many others.
May Almighty God grant his soul eternal rest, comfort his family, and give Ondo State, Yorubaland, and Nigeria the fortitude to bear this profound loss.
Rest well, Pa Reuben Fashoranti. I will remember you with gratitude and honour. May your memory remain a blessing, and may generations yet unborn draw from your life the resolve to stand for truth and integrity.
