Tuesday night’s marquee fixture in the UEFA Champions League lived up to expectations, as defending champions Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona played out a testy, high-octane affair in the French capital.

Both teams entered the match missing key defensive players, but Barcelona suffered the most as a rampaging PSG attack repeatedly exposed weaknesses in their backline.

The hosts’ early pressure paid off in the 38th minute when Désiré Doué opened the scoring. However, the first half ended on a bittersweet note for PSG, who lost star forward Ousmane Dembélé to an injury.

Barcelona suffered a major casualty of their own, losing versatile midfielder Dani Olmo to a physical setback.

The Spanish champions, however, rallied after the break and were rewarded in the 58th minute. Young defender Xavi Espart embarked on a bold marauding run, slotting the ball home to level the scores.

An injury to PSG’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and the substitution of Marquinhos briefly shifted the momentum. Barcelona seized control of the tempo for a sustained spell, but the dynamics shifted again when Lucas Hernández restored PSG’s lead.

Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, who had endured a quiet game up to that point, then produced a brilliant solo effort to equalize yet again.

Ultimately, Barcelona failed to consolidate their position. A late defensive collapse saw them concede two goals in the space of five minutes, allowing PSG to walk away with a 4-2 victory.
