The newly elected chairmen for the 18 local government areas of Edo State have officially assumed office.

They were sworn in by Governor Monday Okpebholo at Government House in Benin with a charge to uphold good governance and ensure economic prosperity in line with the renewed hope agenda.

A Call to Selfless Service

The Governor told the new local council administrators that local governance is about the people, urging them to prioritize human capital development and public interest over personal gain.

“See your positions as a call to service rather than an opportunity for personal enrichment,” Okpebholo stated.

The Governor further directed the chairmen to align their local policies with the broader state agenda, ensuring that government initiatives directly benefit everyday citizens. He stressed that development, transparency, and the prudent management of public resources must remain their core watchwords.

The 18 council chairmen who are all from the All Progressives Congress (APC), following the election held on July 11, 2026, have pledged to deliver tangible democratic dividends across all 18 local government councils.
