Kogi Police Smash Kidnappers’ Hideouts, Restore Calm After Abugi Killings
The Kogi State Police Command has launched a massive search and rescue operation along the Okene–Auchi Road following a recent kidnapping incident.
Security forces successfully dismantled multiple criminal hideouts in the area and restored peace to Abugi communities after recent reprisal killings.
Border Sweep Dislodges Armed Criminals
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, revealed that security forces are currently combing forest corridors across the Okene–Ajaokuta axis.
The intelligence-driven bush-combing operation is heavily concentrated around the Ebiya Forest. To prevent fleeing suspects from escaping, security personnel have sealed the Kogi–Edo border with coordinated clearance patrols.
Peace Returns to Abugi After Reprisal Attacks
In a separate security development, the Command confirmed that peace has returned to Abugi and neighboring communities. The areas were recently rocked by violent reprisal killings.
Calm was achieved after emergency reconciliation engagements were brokered between security agencies, traditional rulers, and community leaders. The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has launched a full-scale investigation to track down and prosecute all perpetrators of the Abugi violence.
Police Commissioner Assures Public of Safety
The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Kankarofi, highly commended the bravery of the joint security teams. He assured the public that the operations will be sustained until all kidnapped victims are safely rescued and reunited with their families.
