Ogun State Police Anti-Kidnapping Unit Foils Ibese Abduction, Recovers AK-47 Rifles
Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit have neutralised two suspected kidnappers, successfully rescued an abducted truck driver, and recovered ₦2 million in cash alongside high-caliber weaponry.
The incident happened on August 25, 2026, at approximately 11:10 p.m., when a truck driver was violently abducted around the Ajibawo area of Ibese, Ogun State.
Immediately after the incident was reported, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit tracked down the perpetrators and secured the victim’s safe release.
Fierce Gunbattle at Criminal Hideout
According to an official statement by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Ogun State Command, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, tactical operatives stormed the suspects’ hideout located along the Papalanto-Ilaro Road.
During the high-stakes raid, a gun duel ensued. Two members of the kidnapping syndicate were neutralised, while other gang members managed to escape into the surrounding bush with varying degrees of gunshot injuries.
The police subsequently recovered two AK-47 rifles, 25 rounds of 5.6mm live ammunition, two mobile phones, and ₦2,000,000 cash (believed to be proceeds of their criminal operations).
A manhunt is said to be underway to capture the fleeing criminals.
