Former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello has officially kicked off her campaign to return to the National Assembly, marking a major political shift ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The daughter of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo launched her campaign trail just months after leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC), following a failed bid to secure the party’s gubernatorial ticket for Ogun State.

Having made a strategic return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), she has successfully clinched the senatorial ticket for Ogun Central Senatorial District.

The move signals her intent to reclaim the red chamber seat she last occupied over a decade ago.

Massive Turnout as Obasanjo Storms Ogun Central

The PDP candidate drew large crowds of party loyalists and local residents as her campaign train swept across the key local government areas of Ogun Central.

The grassroots mobilization indicates a robust revival of her political machinery in the state, positioning her as a formidable contender for the seat.

PDP Leadership Rallies Support

Top hierarchy figures within the Ogun State PDP heavily backed the campaign launch. Leading the trail alongside Obasanjo was the PDP Governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, and his running mate, Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo.

Addressing the energized crowd, Adebutu urged voters to support all PDP candidates across the board. He described Senator Obasanjo as a tested politician whose legislative experience is desperately needed in the National Assembly
