Nigeria’s Foreign Trade Climbs to ₦41.44 Trillion in Q2 2026 as Exports Surge by 27%
Nigeria’s total merchandise trade experienced a significant expansion in the second quarter of 2026, driven by a massive surge in export activities.
According to the latest Foreign Trade Statistics Report released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Monday, the country’s total trade value climbed to ₦41,444.89 billion (₦41.44 trillion).
The new figure marks a 5.61% increase compared to the ₦39,244.42 billion recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2025.
More impressively, it shows a rapid 19.13% quarter-on-quarter growth from the ₦34,788.59 billion documented in Q1 2026, signaling a major boost in Nigeria’s external trade momentum.
Booming Exports Dominate Trade Balance
The stellar performance of the trade sector was heavily anchored by outbound shipments. In the quarter under review, exports completely outpaced imports, accounting for 65.20% of total trade.
The total value of exports reached ₦27,020.88 billion (₦27.02 trillion) in Q2 2026.
Year-on-year growth witnessed a sharp 18.77% rise from the ₦22,750.74 billion recorded in Q2 2025, while quarter-on-quarter growth grew by 27.64% against the ₦21,169.27 billion value posted in the first quarter of this year.
