US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says Washington sees a fresh opportunity to restart peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.

This follows weekend visits by US peace envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who held “substantive” talks with both Vladimir Putin in Moscow and Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv.

While Rubio cautioned that “very bright red lines” remain on both sides, the US is actively working to develop a diplomatic roadmap over the coming weeks.

On the Iran war, Rubio issued a stern warning after Iran’s military targeted a US Navy warship twice in two days. He made it clear: continued aggression against US naval ships will carry an immediate and costly price.

Speaking from Barranquilla, Secretary of State Marco Rubio ruled out the deployment of US troops on the ground to combat drug cartels, noting that Colombia has only ever requested training and resource support.

The visit marks a deeper economic alignment between the two nations, culminating in newly signed agreements to cooperate on critical minerals and civil nuclear energy.
