ABUJA, NIGERIA—A Federal High Court in Abuja has denied a bail application filed by Adeniyi Mathew Adeyemi, the detained Director-General of the alleged fake Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).

The presiding judge, Justice Obiora Egwuatu, ruled against granting bail on Thursday, holding that the court must hear from the Nigeria Police Force and other respondents before making a decision.

However, the court ordered that Adeyemi’s legal team be given unhindered access to him to prepare his defense against upcoming criminal charges.

Background of the Arrest and Lawsuit

Adeyemi was arrested in Osun State approximately two months ago. Through his legal team, he filed an ex parte motion naming the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), the Nigeria Police Force, and the Assistant Inspector-General of Police as the first to fourth respondents.

The lawsuit, signed by defense counsel Ademola Oyedokun and argued by Mohammed Abdulazeez, sought his immediate release from custody or admission to bail and an injunction restraining the police from interrogating him or forcing him to sign statements without his lawyer present.

Forgery and Impersonation Charges

Adeyemi is already facing separate criminal charges under suit number FHC/ABJ/CR/562/2025. The case involves allegations of forgery and impersonation related to his operation of the unauthorized presidential council.

The case is pending before Justice Mohammed Garba Umar, who previously issued an arrest warrant for Adeyemi in July after the defendant failed to appear in court. Justice Umar has scheduled September 30 for Adeyemi’s formal arraignment.
