2027: Tinubu Jets Out to Europe on Three-Week Vacation Ahead of ‘Hectic’ Campaign
President Bola Tinubu departed Abuja on Sunday, August 30, 2026, for Europe to begin a three-week annual leave. The vacation serves as a strategic break to allow the President to recharge before the grueling political campaign season begins for the January 2027 presidential election.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the development in an official State House press release on Sunday.
The President will be making a first stop in London, United Kingdom, before expanding to other parts of Europe.
Described as a “working vacation,” meaning the President will remain engaged with state matters while away.
The Race to 2027
The timing of the President’s recess coincides with a rapidly accelerating political atmosphere in Nigeria. Major political parties are currently scaling up their operations following the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) lifting the ban on campaign activities. “The President is expected to return home after the working vacation to join the hectic campaign for the January 2027 election,” Onanuga stated.
Upon his return, President Tinubu is expected to immediately immerse himself in a nationwide, 36-state campaign trail as he seeks a second term in office.
