WAFCON: Cameroon Indomitable Lionesses Win Their First Title
Cameroon has won their first Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title.
The Central African country defeated Malawi in the final following a dominant display, which ended 3 – 0 at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat, Morocco.
The outcome brought the dreams of the Malawian side to an end after a blistering start to the tournament with a victory over defending champions—Super Falcons.
Malawi had relied heavily on the lethal attacking prowess of sisters Tabitha and Temwa Chawinga throughout the tournament but could find no answer to Cameroon’s highly disciplined defense in the second
But the desire was strong for both sides, who were seeking their maiden African title.
Marie Ngah Manga opened the scoring in the 20th minute via a header and later doubled the lead in the 30th minute through Naomi Ndjoah Eto
The third goal came from Ngah Manga in the first-half stoppage time.
For Cameroon, the win serves as a major breakthrough, having previously suffered three WAFCON finals losses.
They now become the fourth African country to win the trophy. Others are Nigeria (10-time winner), Equatorial Guinea, and South Africa
