2027 Elections: IRI Mission Urges Peaceful Process
The International Republican Institute (IRI) Pre-Election Assessment Mission from the United States has called for peaceful preparations ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 General Election, just days before the official launch of political campaigns.
The US delegation made this call during a strategic meeting with the Nyesom Wike-backed National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to the mission, the visit aims to engage political parties and key stakeholders to evaluate the current political environment and monitor preparations for the upcoming polls.
PDP Assures US Delegation of Electoral Readiness
Receiving the international delegates, PDP National Chairman Abdulrahaman Mohammed affirmed the party’s absolute readiness for the 2027 general election. He emphasized that the PDP remains fiercely committed to democratic principles and fulfilling the aspirations of Nigerians across all 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and the 774 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
Next Steps for the IRI Mission
The IRI delegation is scheduled to continue its high-level consultations with various political parties, civil society organizations, and electoral stakeholders. The mission will present a preliminary report featuring key observations and recommendations to improve Nigeria’s electoral environment ahead of the 2027 vote.
