Tyla Cancels Lagos ‘Detty December’ Concert Amid Rising Xenophobic Tension

South African Grammy winner Tyla has quietly cancelled her highly anticipated Lagos concert following intense online backlash and widespread boycott campaigns by Nigerian fans.

The “Water” singer had originally announced on July 27, 2026, that she would headline a mega “Detty December” show in Lagos on December 22, 2026.

However, the Lagos stop has now been completely erased from her official tour schedule.

Outrage Over Xenophobia Sparks Boycott

The sudden cancellation comes amid renewed fury on Nigerian social media regarding the mistreatment and xenophobic attacks against Nigerian citizens living in South Africa.

Tensions reached a boiling point following the July 2026 death of Chika Ibe, a Nigerian citizen who died under controversial circumstances in Cape Town.

In response, prominent Nigerian influencers, activists including VeryDarkBlackMan, and commentators launched a massive social media boycott, warning event promoters that hosting a high-profile South African artist during this diplomatic friction was deeply inappropriate.

Global Tour Continues Without Nigeria

While Tyla and her management team have not issued an official statement, her updated digital tour schedule confirms Nigeria has been dropped.

The rest of her global tour across North America and Europe remains unaffected. She is still set to conclude her tour with massive homecoming shows in Cape Town and Johannesburg in January 2027.
