OPay NYSE Debut Stalls: No Statement from Underwriters after Halt in Trading
In a dramatic and highly unusual market development, OPay Ltd.’s highly anticipated public debut on the New York Stock Exchange stalled completely on Friday, October 30, 2026.
Despite the company’s executive team ringing the NYSE opening bell, the stock failed to commence regular trading, culminating in an official exchange-mandated trading halt with “news pending” by the afternoon.
The fintech firm had priced its initial public offering of 16 million American depositary shares at $19.00 each—the bottom of its targeted $19 to $21 range. The pricing raised $304 million and valued the prominent financial technology platform at approximately $4 billion.
However, as the trading session progressed, no executed trades ever appeared on the official market feed.
The listing complications coincided with a broader technology sell-off across Wall Street, which saw the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 index plunge 3.5% on Friday.
As of late Friday evening, OPay and its lead underwriting syndicate—which includes Citigroup, Deutsche Bank, and Standard Bank—had not released a formal statement detailing the cause of the delay.
The freeze leaves institutional and retail investors waiting for official confirmation on whether the initial public offering will be restructured, delayed, or indefinitely postponed.
