‘We Were Attacked!’ Omoyele Sowore Accuses Ekiti Police Command, DSS of Covering Up Violent Ambush
ADO-EKITI, NIGERIA — Human rights activist and #RevolutionNow convener, Omoyele Sowore, has condemned the Ekiti State Police Command and the Department of State Services (DSS), accusing them of attempting to cover up what he describes as a coordinated, violent assault against him and his team in Ado-Ekiti.
The incident occurred shortly after Sowore completed a live broadcast interview at MIDAS FM 90.5 in the state capital. According to Sowore, the attackers were political thugs operating directly out of the Ekiti State Government House, allegedly aided by state security operatives.
Sowore categorically rejected claims by law enforcement that the violence was a spontaneous clash.
“There was no altercation! We were attacked!” the activist declared, asserting that the team had been systematically tracked and harassed by DSS operatives since their arrival in Ekiti State.
He alleged that prior to the ambush, state security officials went as far as threatening a local restaurant manager for hosting his team, warning the establishment never to allow them on the premises again.
The controversy deepened following a visit by the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, who personally assessed the situation and visited the victims in the hospital emergency room.
The Police Command later released a statement characterizing the targeted violence as an “altercation” and describing the victims’ wounds as “minor”.
Sowore blasted the police commissioner’s response, calling the official narrative “despicable” and a reflection of institutional infamy. He further noted that the blatant trivialization of the targeted assault has fuelled local allegations regarding potential high-level police complicity in the incident.
The Ekiti State Government and the DSS have yet to issue formal responses to the allegations of providing tracking and operational support to the attackers.
