Tinubu Directs National Sports Commission to Execute Sweep Reforms of NFF
ABUJA — President Bola Tinubu has officially lost patience with the state of Nigerian football.
Following a painful string of failures that saw Nigeria miss out on major regional and global tournaments, the President has ordered a massive, ground-up reform of the country’s favorite sport.
According to a statement dropped on Thursday by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu wants a complete cleanup.
The planned reforms will target the deep-seated issues that have plagued Nigerian football for years—specifically bad governance, sloppy administration, poor domestic leagues, and a total lack of accountability.
The President pointed out that while other sports are finally making progress under the newly re-established National Sports Commission (NSC), football is still stuck in the mud.
What happens next?
President Tinubu has told the NSC Chairman, Shehu Dikko, to team up with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and key stakeholders to map out a massive cleanup process.
The presidency made it clear that they will be working closely with both FIFA and CAF to make sure everything is done by the book and Nigeria’s international standing remains protected.
Essentially, the President is asking all sports administrators and fans to pull in the same direction so Nigeria can finally build a transparent, winning football system.
