ABUJA, NIGERIA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his warm congratulations to the Muslim Ummah across Nigeria and globally on the occasion of the 2026 Eid-el-Maulud celebration, which commemorates the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.

In an official statement released on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President emphasized that the annual festival should transcend mere celebration. Instead, he called on the Muslim faithful to utilize the period for deep introspection, spiritual reflection, and a renewed commitment to the core values exemplified by the Prophet.

“The Muslim faithful should make a deliberate effort to adhere to the teachings of Prophet Muhammad. There are great lessons of devotion, perseverance, tolerance, humility, and selflessness that we can all learn from the life of the Prophet,” President Tinubu stated.

A Call for Leadership and National Support

Recognizing the influential role of faith leaders in shaping societal values, President Tinubu actively charged religious leaders across the nation to use this sacred season to intercede for Nigeria. He urged them to admonish their followers to practicalize the Prophet’s virtues by demonstrating unwavering patriotism and commitment to national development.

With parts of the country still grappling with socio-economic pressures and security threats, the President explicitly called for intensive national prayers to combat the varied afflictions and insecurity disrupting peace in affected regions.

Compassion for the Vulnerable

In alignment with the Islamic tenets of charity and brotherhood, the President further appealed to those celebrating the Maulud festival to extend hands of fellowship, kindness, and material support to the needy and vulnerable members of society. The administration reiterated that the ultimate lesson of the Prophet’s life lies in selflessness, adding that communal support remains vital to cushioning the effects of current national challenges.
