Police Invite VDM for Questioning over Claims Made at NBA Conference
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has officially reacted to a viral comment made by popular social media critic Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), firmly rejecting his allegations that police officers collude with kidnappers.
Speaking on Tuesday at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt, Otse alleged that police personnel stationed at highway checkpoints actively feed intelligence to bandits and kidnappers, informing them about wealthy travellers to facilitate abductions for ransom
In a response released on Thursday, August 27, 2026, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, described the critic’s claims as unsubstantiated, damaging, and deeply demoralising to thousands of officers putting their lives on the line daily.
Invitation to Provide Proof
The police has demanding proof of the claims made. The statement says the 0olice management has officially invited VeryDarkMan to present concrete evidence backing his serious claims. “The Nigeria Police Force hereby invites Mr. Martins Vincent Otse to produce, without delay, the evidence upon which he based these serious allegations… Any such information will be treated with urgency and investigated thoroughly,” the statement reads
The Force urged the public to utilise official channels to report rogue officers rather than making sweeping statements on public platforms, saying it harms national security.
The NPF maintained that security operatives are the primary targets of violent criminal networks, with many officers losing their lives in ambushes and station attacks.
The statement emphasised that while rogue elements exist and will face internal discipline if caught, the majority of the underfunded workforce serves with integrity under highly dangerous conditions
