Nigerian Army Rescues Abducted Wife of Retired General in FCT, Arrests Two Suspects
Troops from the Nigerian Army have successfully rescued Mrs. Adonkie, the wife of retired Brigadier General Basil Adonkie, just 24 hours after she was abducted from her residence.
During the operation, the military also arrested two suspected kidnappers and recovered an AK-47 rifle along with ammunition.
Coordinated Rescue Operation
Mrs. Adonkie was kidnapped from her home on Tuesday, 1 September 2026. Immediately following the abduction, troops from the Guards Brigade and the Army Headquarters (AHQ) Garrison launched a synchronized pursuit across multiple suspected escape routes.
Acting on credible intelligence, the troops tracked the criminals through the Aco Estate–Goza Community axis. Overwhelmed by the military’s rapid response and superior firepower, the kidnappers abandoned the victim and fled into the surrounding bushes.

Following the rescue, the military intensified its tracking operations along the Aco Estate–Angwan Sayawa axis, deploying additional forces to choke off potential escape routes.
On Wednesday, 2 September 2026, the strategy paid off. Troops intercepted the fleeing suspects near Gaube Village in the Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). An AK-47 rifle with a magazine with 19 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition was recovered.
Ongoing Security Crackdown
The two suspects are currently in custody, and clearance operations are ongoing across the region to track down the remaining members of the syndicate.
In a statement, the Nigerian Army commended local residents for their vigilance and vital cooperation. The leadership reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, vowing to sustain aggressive, joint security operations alongside sister agencies to completely dismantle criminal networks across the FCT and its environs.
