Police Arrest Man for Raping, Impregnating 12-Year-Old Minor in Abuja
ABUJA — Officers from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit have arrested a man, Zayyanu Halilu, for allegedly raping and impregnating a 12-year-old girl inside a vehicle parked near the Airport Bridge Taxi Park.
The suspect was caught in the act on October 2, 2026, during a routine patrol by police operatives.
According to a statement issued by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, officers grew suspicious after noticing a fully tinted navy blue Volkswagen with registration number KMC567LQ.
Although the vehicle’s windows were completely wound up, the car was visibly shaking. Upon opening the door, the officers discovered Halilu assaulting the minor.
Preliminary investigations revealed that this was not an isolated incident. The suspect had allegedly lured and sexually abused the victim multiple times in the same vehicle at that location. He reportedly used threats to ensure her silence, warning that he would “deal with her” if she exposed the abuse.
A subsequent medical examination confirmed that the 12-year-old is approximately three months pregnant as a result of the repeated assaults.
The victim is currently undergoing medical care and psychological assessment. Meanwhile, Halilu remains in police custody and will face prosecution immediately after investigations are concluded.
Reacting to the incident, the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged parents and guardians to exercise heightened vigilance regarding the safety, welfare, and whereabouts of their children.
