FCT Police Rescue Two Abandoned Babies in Kurudu and Gwagwalada
Abuja, Nigeria— Two newborn babies are safe today thanks to the quick actions of local residents and emergency responders in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The FCT Police Command rescued a baby boy and a baby girl in separate abandonment incidents this week across the Kurudu and Gwagwalada Area Councils. Both infants are currently receiving medical care and welfare support while authorities search for their families.
Cry for Help: Miraculous Rescues in FCT Communities
The first incident unfolded in Kurudu when a local resident, Mr. Innocent, heard faint cries coming from a cardboard box left on Obodo Street. Upon investigating, he discovered a newborn baby boy tucked inside.
Mr. Innocent immediately alerted authorities. Officers from the Kurudu Division, alongside specialists from the Juveniles and Women Care Department, rushed to the scene. The baby boy was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for a thorough medical assessment before being transitioned into the custody of the Social Welfare Department.
In a strikingly similar incident in Gwagwalada, another resident, Mr. Ibrahim, was startled by the sound of a baby crying just outside his house gate. Joining forces with neighbors, Mr. Ibrahim secured the safety of the baby girl and immediately filed a report with the local police.
First responders transferred the infant to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH) for an immediate medical evaluation. She remains under professional care while the Social Welfare Department prepares to take over her long-term welfare.
Police Commend Community, Appeal for Information
FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, praised the residents for their alertness and swift intervention, noting that their quick thinking ultimately saved the lives of the two innocent children.
The FCT Police Command is now appealing directly to the public for help from anyone who has information regarding the identities of the mothers, relatives, or individuals involved.
