Mass Resignations Rock NFF as President Gusau and Executive Board Step Down
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has been plunged into leadership chaos following the resignation of its President, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, alongside multiple executive board members.
Long-standing rumours of an administrative shake-up materialized into a full-blown crisis as eight out of thirteen board members allegedly stepped down from their positions.
The mass exits follow severe public and governmental pressure triggered by a string of dismal international performances.
The final breaking point came after the Super Falcons failed to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, marking the first time in history that Nigeria’s women’s team will miss the tournament.
Compounding the performance crisis, Nigeria’s intelligence and anti-graft agencies have intervened. The Department of State Services (DSS) is said to be actively investigating the football body over the utilization of a ₦17 billion Federal Government intervention fund approved by President Bola Tinubu in 2024 to clear outstanding player bonuses and staff wages.
This leadership vacuum has now thrown the upcoming NFF elective congress—scheduled for 27 September in Lafia, Nasarawa State—into complete uncertainty.
