Hayden Panettiere, the actress known for her role as cheerleader Claire Bennet in NBC’s sci-fi series Heroes has died.
She was aged 36. Her death was confirmed by her father Skip Panettiere, who doubles as her representative in a statement issued on Sunday, August 16, 2026.
She was described as “an incredible light and a force of nature.” The statement expressed the family’s deep grief over her passing.
The cause and circumstances of her death are yet unknown and are said to be under investigation even as the family requests some privacy to mourn her loss.
Career Legacy
Panettiere first rose to major prominence as a child actress, starring in the sports drama Remember the Titans (2000). Apart from her iconic television roles in Heroes series, she also played Juliette Barnes in Nashville.

Before her death, she had been vocal about her mental health struggles and battle with childhood fame and substance abuse, which was part of her memoir released in May 2026, This Is Me: A Reckoning. In it, she documented candidly on her battle with grief after the sudden death of her younger brother, Jansen, in 2023.
Panettiere was in a relationship with former heavy weight boxer Wladimir Klitschko, with whom she shares an 11-year-old daughter, Kaya.
