SANTIAGO — Around 20,000 Colo-Colo fans flooded the Estadio Monumental on Saturday for the traditional ‘Arengazo’ pep rally, setting the stage for Sunday’s historic 200th Superclásico against Universidad de Chile.

The massive open training session was fueled by intense chanting, flares, and flags. However, the biggest storyline of the day was the arrival of Cape Verdean international goalkeeper Vozinha, who recently signed with the club following a standout campaign at the 2026 World Cup.

Fan Frenzy Over World Cup Star

Vozinha was the centre of attention during the session. Supporters are already backing the veteran goalkeeper to make an immediate impact on the squad.

“Vozinha is coming straight from the World Cup. He has that elite goalkeeper schooling and knows exactly what he is doing,” said Colo-Colo fan Jorge Brito. “He is going to be a key piece for us.”

Another supporter, Felipe Mardones, highlighted how the signing boosts the entire squad. “He brings great history from the World Cup, which will be a massive asset. Plus, he can mentor the young academy keepers coming through the ranks.”

Despite the fan excitement and his heavy involvement in the training session, management has not yet confirmed if Vozinha will start in Sunday’s high-stakes match.

High Security, No Incidents

Local authorities launched a massive security operation to handle the massive crowd. Carabineros deployed heavily around the perimeter and closed several streets surrounding the Estadio Monumental.

Officials confirmed the event concluded peacefully with zero disruptions to the local Metro services.

The match, which is to be played on August 23, is of great significance, as it is the 200th Superclásico between historical rivals Universidad de Chile and Colo-Colo.
