Terrorism: Nigerian Troops Crush Terrorist Networks in Zamfara and Katsina
The Theatre Command of the Joint Task Force (JTF) North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, has launched a massive crackdown on banditry and terrorism, neutralizing dozens of criminals and dislodging strategic hideouts across Zamfara and Katsina States.
The successful operations are part of the military’s newly activated Operation CLEAN SWEEP IV, aimed at completely dismantling the emerging Lakurawa terrorist network and securing vulnerable border communities.
Precision Airstrikes Devastate Terrorist Convoy in Zamfara
Acting on actionable intelligence, the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA intercepted a large convergence of terrorists riding on motorcycles in the Anka Local Government Area (LGA) of Zamfara State.
The military fighter jets conducted precision airstrikes on the target location. The bombardment neutralized scores of terrorists on the spot. The surviving criminals abandoned their operational vehicles and weapons, fleeing with gunshot wounds into the nearby bushes.
Ground Troops Flush Out Bandits in Katsina State
Simultaneously, the ground troops capitalized on the momentum to dislodge criminal hideouts in Katsina State. On August 12, 2026, frontline troops operating around the Dutsin-Ma LGA mounted sustained tactical pressure on known terrorist positions.
Overwhelmed by the military’s superior firepower, the insurgents abandoned their fortified camps and retreated deep into the forest corridors.
Operation CLEAN SWEEP IV: Securing the Border Corridors
In an official statement, the Theatre Command spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, confirmed that these recent successes are tied to the broader strategic goals of Operation CLEAN SWEEP IV.
According to Lt. Col. Danja, the military is heavily focused on dismantling the Lakurawa terrorist network across the northwest theatre, blocking international infiltration routes and preventing foreign terrorist reinforcement into Nigeria, as well as denying armed bandits access to critical border areas and transit corridors, including their logistical hubs around the River Niger axis and the Kainji Lake National Park.
The Defence Headquarters has reassured residents of the North West region of their safety, urging local communities to continue providing timely intelligence to security agencies to help permanently eliminate the security threats.
