Six Kidnapped Victims Rescued in Kebbi After Gunfight
Nigerian troops have posted another security breakthrough in the northwest state of Kebbi, after troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, successfully rescued six kidnapped victims following a heavy gun battle with terrorists.
It followed what was described as a tactical operation on September 2, 2026, at Mehinua village, located within the Wasagu Local Government Area of the state.
Intelligence-Led Mobilisation
According to an official statement released by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North West, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, the military response was triggered by credible intelligence reports.
The intelligence flagged suspicious terrorist activity targeting travelers along the volatile Wasagu-Ayu Road. Acting swiftly on the information, troops mobilised to intercept the criminals.
Fierce Firefight Forces Terrorist Retreat
Upon arriving at Mehinua village, the troops established contact with the armed bandits and engaged them with a high volume of firepower.
The overwhelming military pressure ultimately forced the terrorists to abandon their captives and flee into the surrounding bushes to escape arrest.
Following the confrontation, the troops recovered all six abducted persons entirely unharmed. The rescued individuals were subsequently profiled and handed over to their respective local community authorities for immediate reunification with their families.
Military Reaffirms Anti-Terrorism Resolve
The Theatre Command noted that the successful operation showcases the unyielding commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protecting lives and property across the North-West zone.
The military also reassured the public that it will maintain aggressive, intelligence-led operations across the region to completely clear out terrorist networks from the zone
