Shakeup in Osun: Controversial CP Ibrahim Gotan Removed Weeks Before Crucial Election
OSOGBO, Nigeria — The Nigeria Police Force has deployed a new Commissioner of Police, Samuel Erale, to oversee security for the upcoming August 15 Osun State governorship election.
The strategic deployment follows months of intense pressure from the Osun State government, which repeatedly demanded the removal of the former CP, Ibrahim Gotan.
Government officials had accused Gotan of political partisanship and failing to properly manage election-related security threats.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the new appointment on Friday, noting that CP Erale has been tasked specifically with securing the gubernatorial poll.

CP Erale Samuel Etaifo will spearhead election security operations by collaborating with sister security agencies and local stakeholders. His mandate includes enforcing strict compliance with the Electoral Act and the official Code of Conduct for Security Personnel on Electoral Duty.
The Osun State Police Command assured the public that robust security measures are now active across the state. These measures aim to safeguard lives, property, and sensitive electoral materials before, during, and after the ballots are cast.
