The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has started distributing sensitive election materials to all 30 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Osun State.

It marks a critical step of readiness for the upcoming Saturday governorship election.

Late-Night Distribution at CBN Osogbo

The deployment, which had been delayed due to the need to reprint certain sensitive later began late Thursday night at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) headquarters in Osogbo.

Election officials worked into the early hours of Friday to ensure orderly sorting. The Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Oluwatoyin Babalola, officially signed the EC8B result sheets for the state’s 332 wards before dispatching them.

Resolving Ballot Printing Delays

The distribution followed a minor delay caused by a recent court ruling. The court ordered INEC to include the Social Democratic Party (SDP) on the ballot. This legal directive required a rapid reprinting of sensitive materials to guarantee an inclusive and credible poll.

Strategic Deployment and Tight Security

To maximize efficiency, INEC prioritized the state’s most distant areas. The initial dispatches targeted remote locations of Ife South, Ifetedo, and Atakumosa East.

Heavily armed security personnel escorted the delivery vehicles to prevent transit hitches. The process was monitored by party agents, civil society groups, and observers.
